The Critical Metals Dilemma – The folly of protecting our future by using yesterday’s tactics

The Critical Metals Dilemma
The folly of protecting our future by using yesterday’s tactics

To paraphrase Voltaire, “It is dangerous to be right in matters on which the established authorities are wrong.” Yet I am willing to take that risk in this article. As Chairman of CVMR Corporation, a mining and refining company based in Canada and the United States with subsidiaries in 18 countries, I thought I had sufficient information at my fingertips to evaluate the relevant factors affecting my business. In the past I could even forecast the fluctuations and macro cyclical movements in the metal markets with reasonable accuracy. But today all bets are off. No soothsayer of the commodity markets can accurately predict where we are headed. Here are some constituent factors that I think might be relevant given this precarious state of affairs.

New technique successfully converts power plant CO2 to graphite

A Canadian project has successfully captured power plant flue gas CO2 and converted it into value-added products including graphite and graphene. The project, run by CVMR and EnerCarbon and partially funded by the”Solutions 2030 Challenge” program of the Ontario Centers of Excellence (OCE), involves capturing CO2 emissions from industrial operations of various scales through a novel modular technology, replacing conventional absorption towers and scrubbers.

Historic Discovery of Significant Magnesite Deposit in the U.S. – White Moon & CVMR Enter Into Agreement for CVMR to Perform Feasibility Study – White Moon Will Be the 2nd Magnesite Mine in the U.S.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif., December 12, 2018 (Newswire.com) – In accordance with the Feasibility & Equity Participation Agreement (the “Agreement”) between CVMR® Corp.[1] (“CVMR”) and Nevada Marketing Consultants LLC (“NMC”), 100% owner of the White Moon Mine (aka Needles Magnesite Deposit), CVMR®will conduct a Feasibility Study to substantiate the measured, indicated and inferred magnesite ore contained in the White Moon mine over and above the current 527,000 tons of magnesite deposit that is exposed at the surface. Because previous testing, drilling and trenching by the U.S. Geological Survey and others found high-quality magnesite at depths of 100 feet, it is possible that there are an additional 5 to 10 million tons of magnesite at White Moon. Other than substantiating the magnesite reserves in White Moon, the secondary objective of the Feasibility Study is to determine the technical and economic viability of alternative refining solutions currently available to White Moon for processing its magnesite ore. To accomplish this project, NMC has asked CVMR to perform the Feasibility Study (“FS”) at a substantially reduced cost ($1.5 million) and reduced time (6 months). In exchange for the substantially reduced cost and time for the FS, the Agreement requires NMC to give CVMR additional compensation which is a 10% (ten percent) equity interest in NMC/White Moon, immediately subsequent to the completion of the FS. NMC was introduced to CVMR by Nova Capital International LLC[2], NMC’s exclusive investment banker.

Mining and Refining Magnesium in California

TORONTO, October 11, 2018 (Newswire.com) – The US economy is growing faster than anyone had expected. Self-sufficiency in raw materials has become of great importance. Magnesium is a crucial element used in various industries, medicine, and food supplements. The White Moon magnesite mine is situated near San Bernardino, California, and has sufficient reserves of magnesium to curtail substantial imports of magnesium into the United States from China. White Moon is taking advantage of this vast, highly diversified and ever-expanding market in the United States by initiating the mining and refining of its magnesium resource.
